How to Register to Vote
To become a registered elector in South Carolina, a person must be at least eighteen (18) years of age on election day, AND a United States citizen and resident of the State, county and precinct in which he wishes to register to vote. The mentally incompetent and persons confined to any public prison are disqualified from being registered and from voting. Persons convicted of felonies or crimes against the election law are also disqualified unless they have served their complete sentence, including any probation or parole time, or have been given a pardon by the South Carolina Pardon and Parole Board. There is no durational residence requirement in South Carolina in order to register to vote.
A person must register in person at least thirty (30) days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that particular election. You may register at Edgefield County Voters Registration, 129 Courthouse Square, Edgefield, SC.
Registration by mail must be postmarked at least forty-five (45) days prior to that particular election to be eligible. Registrations can be picked up Edgefield County Voter?s Registration, 129 Courthouse Square, Edgefield, SC; or you may call Edgefield Voter?s Registration at (803) 637-4072 and one will be mailed to you.
There are two polling areas in the Town of Johnston. Precinct #1 (wards north of the railroad track toward- Augusta) American Legion Building 95 Edisto Street; Precinct #2 (wards south of the railroad track toward Saluda) – Johnston Elementary School Gym, 514 Lee Street.
